WEBINAR ON NEW NORMAL IN JOURNALISM EDUCATION NOW HAS 2,500 REGISTRANTS





Preparing for the New Normal in Journalism Education



Because of the pandemic, there will now be a "new normal" in journalism education. JSAP, together with the UP Department of Journalism, University of Santo Tomas, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, in collaboration with Barangay Hub of Lyf, Division of City Schools of Manila and organized under the Initiative for Media Freedom of Internews, with support from USAID, have organized an online seminar titled Preparing for the New Normal in Journalism Education.

Originally, a target audience of 500 was envisioned. But there is an outpouring of interest in the zoom seminar. The organizers had to stop the registration to 2,000 participants.





The 2-day seminar via zoom is scheduled on July 23 and 24, 2020 from 9:00 to 12:00 noon.

​The first day had Roby Alampay of One News as the first speaker. He lectured on the Basics of Online News Writing and Beat Reporting. Kara David of GMA7 spoke on Broadcast Journalism. She is also a member of the UP Department of Journalism. Jimmy A. Domingo of the Photojournalist Center of the Philippines gave a lecture on Photojournalism. He is also a senior lecturer of the UP Journalism department.

On the second day, Karol Ilagan of PCIJ, will speak on Investigative Journalism. Jairo Bolledo of PUP will do a demo teaching on News Gathering in the Time of the Pandemic. Felipe Salvosa III of UST will talk on Lead Writing and Dor Montero of DLSU will talk on Feature Writing. Ben Domingo, Chair of CHED's Technical Committee on Journalism will give the closing remarks.
