Introduction
Last week I had the pleasure of interviewing an 11th grade student at SHS named Hannah Browstick. The interview started with a simple question: “Do you enjoy Statesboro high?.”, to which she responded “I would have to say yes and no to that one”. She said she likes to hang out with her friends but school can “Stress people out to the point of no return””.
Opinion on going to school during the pandemic.
I then asked her how does it feel to go to school during the pandemic. She said “Going to school during the pandemic is a tad bit more stressful than normal but I think we should have the opportunity to go to school. If we’re stuck at home our parents wouldn’t let us out or go anywhere. So it gives us this chance to interact with people in person.”
I asked her what about school has changed since she came back. “The hand sanitizer stations everywhere and use having to keep our seating charts like no matter what, and the teachers being more strict about them.” Is what she replied back to me.
Her opinion school rules
I first asked her about the general rules placed for students which she seems to have no disagreement with. Then I proceeded to ask her about the seating arrangements the school placed for the cafeteria. “No I think that it’s smart. If you have everyone on one side of the table it’s not like it’s any better than them sitting across from you. They’re beside you and next to you. They’re breathing next to you face to face, hanging over your food, and everywhere”. Which I agree with I think that rule was a stupid but that’s neither here or there.
Her opinion on the dress code is that “It’s a tad more lenient towards the girls than it is the girls. Like as a girl myself we’re told to not show that much, cover up, don’t do this and don’t do that. And then you have other boys walking around here with tank tops on less than 3 or more fingers and their able to do it because they’re boys.”
What she would change about the school
“ I would probably change the dress code. Like let us have more freedom, we’re growing adults we need to see what our style is. We need to be ourselves, we don't need to be contained like we’re in a prison and forced to wear certain clothing.” And that concluded the interview. ^.^
